The Amsterdam Centre for Studies in Early Modernity brings together an interdisciplinary community of scholars who study the economy, politics and culture of Europe and the world. We focus on art, culture, and history of the Dutch Republic in an international and interdisciplinary context. The participating departments are chaired by full professors Geert Janssen (History), Frans Grijzenhout (Art History) and prior to 2021, Lia van Gemert (Dutch Literature).
Amsterdam Centre for Studies in Early Modernity: broad outlook on the seventeenth century

The interdisciplinary research centre ACSEM brings together research into history, art and culture from the 17th century. One of the initiatives of the new centre is a series of lectures in which researchers analyse history on the basis of an object. Judith Noorman: ‘We have simply outgrown the term ‘Golden Age’.’
